Coxhoe Communicator - June 5th 2013
Welcome back after the half-term break. As usual the 2nd half of the summer term will be a busy time and there will be regular correspondence home about school trips, events etc. – Please check your child’s book/school bag regularly for any notifications, as well as the school website for up to date information.
Year 6 SAT’s: Well done to year 6 who have recently completed their National SAT tests. All of the pupils applied themselves well during the tests and we await notification of results on or around 9th July.
Kingsway Residential Activity Holiday for Y5 and Y6 pupils June 12th – 14th: Hopefully all parents have received a copy of the suggested ‘kit’ list for the 3 days. Miss Thompson is having a drop-in Q and A session for parents on Friday 7th June 3.30 – 4.00p.m. if you have any queries. Alternatively, pop in and speak to her either before or after school. School staff accompanying pupils will be, Miss Thompson; Miss Parker, Miss Hawes and Miss Wigham. Those Y5/Y6 pupils remaining in school will be completing project work for our Sri Lankan partner school over the 3 days under the guidance of Miss O’Sullivan.
Bike to School Scheme: Our current Y5 pupils will this week complete their cycling proficiency award and be issued with their Bike Licence Application Forms. Please note bringing a bike to school is only open to year 5 and 6 pupils who have completed the cycling proficiency award and received their bike licence. This is to ensure those pupils riding to school have achieved a recognised level of safety on the roads.
Scooters: Pupils who wish to come to school on a scooter can do so – but must be supervised by an adult and if leaving their scooter in school this must be chained up in the bike shed.
Please note: Due to the number of pedestrians walking into/out of school NO bikes or scooters can be ridden on the school grounds.
Year 6: Primary Athletics competition: – Well done to the Y6 pupils representing the school at this event last half term – excellent sportsmanship and worthy representatives. A special ‘well done ‘ to Connor who won his event and now represents the school in the County/Area Shot Put Final.
Framwellgate School (Durham) visit by Art Teachers and Masterclass: – Recently Miss Atkinson and Mr Connor visited school to show our pupils work completed by KS3 pupils for an exhibition. Our pupils were really impressed with the high standard of the work. We also thank Miss Atkinson for teaching some of our Y5 pupils in a fantastic After School Art ‘printing’ master class. You will be able to see some examples of their work around school in the near future.
Community Litter Pick:- Well done to Year 1 and Year 4 pupils for taking part in the DCC ‘Spring Pick/Big Clean’ They collected litter from paths around and alongside the school, helping to make the environment much cleaner .
Y3 visit to Eden Camp: Y3 undertook their summer trip to Eden Camp on the last day of term, neither an early start and late return or the damp weather could dampen their spirits. Miss Temple reports they had a great day and learnt much to help them in their World War 2 topic.
